CNPEM ANNUAL
I was invited to illustrate the Overview section for the CNPEM (The Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials) 2025 Annual Report. It was an exciting opportunity to explore themes that were very new to me.
The Overview introduces how the center operates and presents key numbers and statistics related to the space, as well as the work carried out by employees, researchers, and students.
The concept was to incorporate symbols and people connected to research and discovery, while also bringing in Brazilian fauna and flora. These elements are both sources for many of the center’s studies and part of the natural environment surrounding the campus.
Translating large and complex ideas - such as nanotechnology, biomass fuel research, or even understanding how a particle accelerator works into simplified images was a real challenge.
But as it was part of the brief, combining these scientific themes with animals and diverse plant life became a way to create illustrations that feel both organic and fresh. I chose a vibrant color palette that draws inspiration from real-life references, while allowing the scientific elements to integrate naturally with the surrounding landscape.
I am quite help with how it turned out!
